Harvest Appeal 2026

The Harvest season is nearly here. Harvest is a key time when Christians thank God for the provision of food and communities recognise the efforts to grow and reap food at the end of the harvesting season.

As people are grateful for having food, we think about those who go without. We have been incredibly grateful that this often leads people to donate to the food bank. This Harvest season we are more in need than ever and are asking the Salford community to come together and help to donate food items again.

The demand for food parcels continues to be really high – more people are being referred to us because they just don’t have enough money coming in to cover essential living costs.  The circumstances surrounding a crisis are unique to every individual, so we partner with frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and other community-based support workers, who are able to identify people facing hunger and refer them to the foodbank.

On average we provide food parcels to 400 people a week, a third of these are children! Due to these high numbers we are needing to spend around £10,000 a month on food, that’s over 50% of the food that goes into our food parcels. We can’t sustain spending that much on food, but that can only change with the generosity of local people. Your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

Can your school/church/business/family collect donations for Salford Foodbank this Harvest?

We have several Harvest resources available for you to use – a poster, presentation, and images for social media.

If you are up for the challenge we have also provided resources to take part in our Cereal Domino challenge. Instead of collecting items from our usual list you could focus on cereal. The  challenge is to build a domino run through your school/church/office with all the cereal you have collected. We would love to see videos of your cereal domino runs on social media! Cereal is something that goes into every one of our parcels and we regularly buy it because we don’t get enough donated.

We will happily accept donations of tins and packets of food that are unopened, non-perishable, in date, and undamaged. We also accept essential toiletries and sanitary items.

We can arrange a Harvest visit to your school to talk to children in an assembly or in the classroom about the work of Salford Foodbank, or to your church to present to your congregation.

You would also be more than welcome to come and visit the food bank, whether you are from a local church, business or would like to bring a few students with you from a local school.

Please do let us know if you are planning a collection – we can arrange a suitable day and time to pick up your donations in our Foodbank van.
